To Do {list}: Uncomfortable Is Good

I’m a creature of comforts, which may surprise people who have seen me in entrepreneur mode. This week is focused on getting out of my zone and making a few necessary changes. I’ve had some pretty exciting ideas for the business that have been put on the back burner because I haven’t known where to begin. Starting is, without a doubt, the hardest part of most any task.

Book I’m reading, sketch for a brochure I’m designing

A good friend and fellow entrepreneur, Ed Edge of Cute Bikes and RVA Vegan, took me to dinner and basically gave me the “just do it, woman” chat that I needed to hear — along with a few business tips he’s learned over the years. So, I’m reading a book about people skills (specifically as they relate to business). So far I’m enjoying it a lot. The main idea is that you should never criticize people if you want to get them to do things. Looking back, my three favorite bosses of all time have been super positive and reaffirming, rarely (if ever) uttering a negative remark. I’m also working on some printed marketing materials for a big idea I’m about to push forward. Stay tuned!

Speaking of favorite bosses, tonight I told my “how I started Minima” story to my former boss (and dear friend) at Glave & Holmes, Eleanor Barton’s, Interior Design class. I enjoyed the interaction and Q&A time a LOT. Hopefully it was as satisfying for the students as it was for me. I was super nervous about speaking in front of 40ish people, but it was totally worth it. See, out of my comfort zone!

Additional tidbit — my client today said to me, “Damn, you are so good! These ideas are revolutionary.” Wow, revolutionary. I’d say this week is off to an excellent start!
